Measuring

I will measure my life in laughter erupting like a volcano from my diaphragm and tears that stain my cheeks black. I will measure my life in books with their pages creased from reading them on cold winter nights and poems scribbled feverishly on scrap paper. I will measure my life in friendships and heartbreak. I will measure my life in triumphs and falls, but never again will I measure my life in pounds, calories, miles, or inches.
